Mondays are the sacred day off, so dinner is always an issue, since no one’s in the mood to spend their only time in the week free at a crappy place. The old Rice Queen has been keeping me pretty busy but the following have been highlights on my unofficial start to the week!
Having said the above, I still seem to manage hitting quite a few places best avoided, but unlike many other bloggers, I don’t get my vindictive hat on and trash the place all over the interwebs – I’d rather don’t write about them at all. Hopefully if there’s no news on the interwebs they’ll just disappear. I hope. (Don’t even get me started on what I think of Urbanspoon.)
Places worth mentioning lately have been Rockwell & Sons, new on Smith Street, adding to a delicious selection of restaurants in Fitzroy/Collingwood. A seasonal menu that is actually seasonal, an eatery thats the right side of casual, open on Mondays and cooking up fare thats worth returning to over and over again. I love it.
Horn Please. So glad I eventually made it to the other side of the park to try the Indian fare at Horn Please. Hip decor, beautifully fresh curries that change daily and vegetarian worth returning for, if the Naan alone doesn’t have you back. No one else is doing this, surprisingly. Great chef, great space.
Little Henri. New cafe waaaaaay up High street in Thornbury is Little Henri, doing modern cafe classics with its roots in petit-dejeuner. The space is an old bank and it’s carefully tended – with brisk service, well cooked food, spot-on coffee and a great fit-out in an area that doesn’t provide much of this (yet).

I like your style. Still have to find time to hit Little Henri – but I was also raving about Small Lots in South Melbourne if you get the chance.

Thank you! I’ll try get there next week – where is it?
In South Melbourne – in an area that this is the only cafe to be found. Great american takes on dishes.
